 IFSA WILL MISS JIM BENNETT…

General NewsThe IFSA lost a great friend and huge supporter today. Jim Bennett, father of Cliff and Lexi Bennett, was killed in a mining accident in Colorado.

As a father of two of our sports most passionate competitors, Jim was always sharing his excitement for the sport of competitive freeskiing and shared in his family’s success in the sport. Often Jim would call me through the summer months to share his ideas and express his enthusiasm and support for the IFSA and efforts to progress the sport.

When I would be on the road to the next event I could almost always expect a call from “Jimmy” or “Jimmer”( as I would often call him). We would talk about how excited he was for the future of the sport and his excitement for his kids performance’s etc. He loved to watch them compete and his phone calls were always reinforcing to me. He knew the difficulties of our job and was sometimes that voice I needed to hear after a long week of judging. I appreciated him as an involved parent and friend. He will be greatly missed by all of us at the IFSA and always remembered. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Bennett Family through this difficult time and we send you much love and support.

Rest in Peace dear friend…

 FREESKIING LOSES AN ICON.

General News

The freeskiing family lost a good friend last Friday. On July 17th, Freeskiing’s “Captain Jack” Carey was involved in a biking accident that tragically took his life outside Telluride, CO. Captain Jack was the consummate ski bum who loved his life and to us was the positive voice and calming presence that got so many skiers out of the gate in competitive freeskiing over the past 20 years. Since the beginning, Jack was there. He was our starter for so many events. His presence at the top of a venue was something many athletes looked forward to. With a quick shoulder rub and a pat on the back he would help relax athletes and send them off with confidence and the positive vibe we needed to get down the mountain. As an event organizer he saw that the future of competitive freeskiing was in the youth and he was truly the spark that started the fire of junior freesking competition. By establishing junior freeskiing events at Red Mountain, Kimberly and Fernie, Jack fueled the progression of junior freeskiing popularity.

IFSA MOURNS LOSS OF BILLY POOLE.....INSPIRING FRIEND, COMPETITOR AND LIFE ENTHUS

General NewsThe Freeskiing world lost a friend on Tuesday January 22nd when Billy Poole skied out of our world while negotiating a line in Wolverine Cirque in Utah's back country.

Billy was a past competitor in big mountain freeskiing and was an up and coming super star in ski films and will be remembered for his kind smile and contagious enthusiasm for skiing and the life he shared with so many. I will miss you Billy and we will not forget you. Your memory will resonate through the Wasatch and as the ravens soar the ridges so will your spirit...

From the IFSA and our large family of skiers and staff we send our deepest condolences to Billy's Family and all the friends in the Wasatch and beyond. Be well and at peace good friend.....

 PHAAAT TUESDAY AND THE TOUR!!!

General NewsWhat a ride these past two weeks have been. I left for SLC on Feb 4th…Super Bowl Sunday. I returned here to Leavenworth, Washington on Fat Tuesday. A day that was truly the fattest day of powder skiing this season. Stevens Pass got hit with a 2 ft dump and locals laughed in their lack for better expression, for the excitement that was pouring over the mountain. This type of laughter is something I experienced often over the past two weeks while…..

Smiles are contagious!

Dream Season is the first guidebook to be released that focuses solely on heli-skiing and cat-skiing. Firsthand accounts of experiences in British Columbia, Colorado, New Zealand, and Russia, give readers the opportunity to gain valuable insight into different types of operations.

Dates set for Tobias' memorials set

General NewsAnonymous writes "I guess there is not much to be said that has not been said already....

I miss Toby so much it hurts

I have learned many things the past fifteen days, but the biggest shocker of all is that everybody hurts sometime. Yea, I know, sappy R.E.M song, but it is true. Everyone is bound to lose someone, some day. "It is better to have loved and lost, than to not have loved at all". This old cliche holds true, and I know it now more than ever.

I am embarking upon the first annual "Tobias Memorial Tour", It isn't a short journey, hopefully. If things go well it should last at least sixty more years. Tob will be by my side forever, in my heart, on the trail, down the road, in the mountains. Snow flakes will now have an identical image of my brother imbedded in each particular one.

The first four stops of the tour are as scheduled:

- Saturday May 6th, at The Auld Dubliner, base of Squaw Valley, 4PM
- Tuesday May 9th, 6PM, city park gazebo, Park City. BYObeer, dogs, meat, buns, smile
- Saturday May 13th, Crested Butte, bottom of the lifts at noon.
- Weekend after mom's day in Juneau, AK. Location TBD.

LOVE AND PEACE TO ALL. elijah

ps- slightly morbid site to visit, but please sign Tob's guestbook at: Westfordfuneralhome.com"
